IMPROV PIECING

To improv piece the polaroid frames, place a main print square right side up. Lay your ruler on top, at an angle, to indicate your cut line (Fig A). An Add A Quarter ruler will help you see where your seam will fall, to aid with fussy cutting.

Cut along the line and discard the scrap. Repeat with the opposite corner (Fig B).

Place one piece of pink blender fabric RST on top of the main print, lining up the 4in edge against a cut corner. Sew together with a ¼in seam allowance and press seams to the side. Repeat the same process on the opposite corner (Fig C).

Place the ruler across the top of the main print square (Fig D). Cut along the ruler and discard the scraps. Continue to trim around the main print in this way (Fig E).

Keep adding fabrics and trimming, using this method, until your main print is entirely framed (Fig F). For a motif print this size, it usually takes six to eight pieces to frame it comfortably.
