YOU WILL NEED

■ Fabric A–H: eight (8) fat quarters

■ Backing fabric: 16in square

■ Batting: 15in square

FINISHED SIZE

■ 14in square

NOTES

■ Seam allowances are ¼in, unless otherwise noted.

■ Press seams open, unless otherwise instructed.

■ Templates include seam allowances, where necessary.

■ For templates, see p89.

■ QST = Quarter-square Triangle.

■ Press fabrics well before cutting.

CUTTING OUT

From Fabric A cut:

■ One (1) 11in square. Cut in half diagonally in each direction to yield four

(4) QSTs.

From Fabric B cut:

■ One (1) 10½in square. Fold and cut using Template A as in step 2 of the main quilt instructio­ns.

From Fabric C cut:

■ Four (4) 2½in x 22in strips for binding.

From each of Fabrics D, E, F and G cut:

■ One (1) 6½in x 5½in rectangle. Cut one Template B and C from each rectangle, as in step 3 of the main quilt instructio­ns, to yield four of each shape.

From Fabric H cut:

■ Four (4) 10½in x 1in strips.

ASSEMBLING THE QUILT TOP

Follow steps 8–13 of the Drunkard’s Wheel instructio­ns for the quilt to make one block. Trim the finished block to measure 9½in square.

Take two Fabric H strips and sew to the sides of the block. Trim any excess and sew the two remaining strips to the top and bottom of the block.

Sew two Fabric A QSTs on opposite sides of the square. Press and sew the remaining two to the opposite sides. Trim the mini quilt to 14½in square.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

Finish the mini, following steps 18–21 of the main quilt instructio­ns. This quilt features a mix of straight line quilting and circular quilting within the swirl.
