CUTTING OUT

1 From Fabric A cut:

■ Two (2) 2 / in x WOF strips. Subcut into twenty (20) diamonds, using the Diamond template.

2 From each of Fabrics B, C, D, E and F cut:

■ Four (4) 2 / in x WOF strips. Subcut each fabric into thirty nine (39) diamonds, using the Diamond template.

3 From each of Fabrics G and H cut:

■ Ten (10) 2 / in x WOF strips. Subcut each fabric into one hundred and seventeen (117) diamonds, using the Diamond template.

4 From Fabric I cut:

■ Seventeen (17) 1in x WOF strips. Subcut into one hundred and fourteen (114) 1in x 6in strips.

■ Twenty (20) 1in x WOF strips. Join these strips along the short edges to form one long strip. Subcut into two (2)

1in x 21in strips, two (2) 1in x 33in strips, two (2) 1in x 45in strips, two (2) 1in x

57in strips, two (2) 1in x 66in strips and five (5) 1in x 72in strips.

5 From Fabric D cut:

■ Six (6) 2½in x WOF strips for binding.

PIECING THE QUILT TOP

6 Take one diamond each of Fabrics A, F, G and H. Arrange in a diamond formation, as shown. Sew the diamonds together in pairs, pressing seams to opposite sides. Sew the pairs together, nesting the seams. Pull back the seam at the intersecti­on and press the seams to opposite sides to create a swirl (Fig 1).

7 Piece the remaining diamond units, as you did in the last step, creating the groupings as shown (Fig 2).

8 Piece the edge units as shown (Fig 3). Sew two diamonds together in a pair, then sew the third diamond to the pair, taking care to position correctly. Press seams away from the centre diamond.

9 Arrange the diamond units into rows, referring to the Layout Diagram for placement. Join a Fabric I 1in x 6in strip in between each diamond unit. As you work, press the seams toward the Fabric I strips, and trim flush with the diamond units.
