■ Sixteen (16) 10½in squares.

■ Sixteen (16) 18½in x 4½in strips.

■ Sixteen (16) 22½in x 4½in strips.

■ Six (6) 4½in x WOF strips.

3 From the binding fabric cut:

■ Ten (10) 2½in x WOF strips.

PIECING THE QUILT TOP

4 Pair each rainbow 4½in x 2½in rectangle with a white 4½in x 2½in rectangle to make one hundred and twenty eight pairs. Sew together along the long edges and press open.

5 Sew the joined units into pairs. Join a white 4½in x 2½in piece to the end, to make sixty four strips of alternating white and rainbow strips (Fig 1).

6 Sew a strip unit to the top and bottom of each white 10 in square, to make sixteen units (Fig 2).

7 Sew a rainbow 4 in square to either side of remaining thirty two strip units. Sew these to the sides of the units from step 6 (Fig 3). This completes sixteen rainbow blocks.

8 Sew an 18 in x 4 in strip to one side of each block. Then sew a 22 in x4 in strip to the bottom of each block. Sew the blocks into four rows of four, positioning so that there’s a white strip in between each. Join the four rows together (Fig 4).

9 Sew your six 4 in x WOF strips together along the short edges to create one long length. Sew along the top edge of your quilt, press and trim to size. Sew the remaining length to the left edge of your quilt, press and trim to complete the quilt top.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

10 Cut the backing fabric into three pieces, roughly 99in x WOF. Remove the selvedges and sew the three pieces together along the long edges using a in seam. Press the seams open.

11 Press the quilt top and backing well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then place the quilt top centrally and right side up. Baste the three quilt layers together using your preferred method.

12 Quilt as desired. Jenn quilted straight lines diagonally across the quilt. Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the quilt.

13 Sew the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open and trim the dog ears. Fold in half lengthways, wrong sides together, and press.

14 Sew the binding to the right side of the quilt, creating a neat mitre at each corner. Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place around the edge to finish.
