PREPARING THE BLOCKS

7

Take one mint 7 in x 5 in piece and one pink 3 in x 5 in piece and sew together along the 5 in edge. Press (Fig 1).

8

Cut one Arc template piece from the joined unit, with the pink strip at the bottom. Align the template with the right edge of the unit and ensure there’s an even distance between the top and bottom (Fig 2). Repeat steps 7– 8 to make a total of sixteen left arc units.

9

Take one peach 1 in x 5 in strip and one white 2 in x 5 in strip and sew together along the 5 in edge. Sew a pink 1 in x 3in strip to the other long edge of the white strip, aligning edges on the right. Join a white

5 in x 6 in piece to the bottom of the unit, once again aligning edges on the right (Fig 3). Press.

10

Cut one Arc template piece from the joined unit. For precise piecing, align the template with the left edge of the unit, and the red marks with the pink unit (Fig 4). Repeat steps 9–10 to make a total of sixteen right arc units.

11

Sew together one pink 4 in x 2 in strip and one peach 1 in x 4 in strip along the 4 in edge. Sew a mint 4 in x 5in piece to the bottom and press (Fig 5).

12

Cut one Semicircle template piece from the joined unit, aligning the template with the left edge of the unit and align the red marks with the peach strip (Fig 6). Repeat steps 11–12 to make a total of sixteen pieced semicircles.

PIECING THE BLOCKS

13

Take one left arc unit from step 8 and one white semicircle and crease the centre of each of the shapes. Place the arc on top of the semicircle RST, carefully matching the creases and ends, and pin in place. Ease along the curve and pin together between these points.

14

With the arc shape on top, sew the pieces together along the curved edge. Work slowly to avoid stretching, removing each of the pins as you go.

15

Take one right arc unit from step 10 and one pieced semicircle from step

12. Place the arc on top of the semicircle RST, carefully matching the pink and peach

1 in strips in each unit. Pin in place. You may wish to add a few basting stitches here to ensure they stay in place.
