From each of the turquoise and peach fabrics cut:

■ Seven (7) 1½in x WOF strips.

3

From the mustard print fabric cut:

■ Seven (7) pieces using the Triangle template.

■ Two (2) pieces using the Half Triangle template (one regular and one reversed).

4

From the coral fabric cut:

■ Four (4) 1½in x WOF strips.

PIECING THE STRIP TRIANGLES

8 #

Join three peach and four turquoise strips together along the long edges, pressing the seam open after adding each strip. Cut four triangles from the strip set, rotating the template between cuts (Fig 1). 9 #

Repeat step 8, sewing four peach and three turquoise strips to make a second strip set. Cut three triangles and two mirror image half triangles.

GO FOR A MERRY MIX OF SOLIDS AND PRINTS TO GIVE YOUR CUSHIONS A FUN, FESTIVE FEEL

PIECING THE MUSTARD TRIANGLES

10

Take a mustard print triangle and sew a coral 1 in strip to one side. Trim the excess at the top and bottom. Add a second coral 1 in strip to the remaining side. Use the Triangle template to trim, aligning the template at the top of the triangle and trimming away the excess (Fig 2).

11

Repeat step 10 to make seven triangles. Repeat the process again to make two mirror image half triangles.

PIECING THE HALF TRIANGLES

12

Sew the pink and red print half triangles into pairs to make full triangles. You should have one red half triangle left over.

ASSEMBLING THE CUSHION FRONT

13

Arrange the triangles into four rows of seven full triangles, with a half triangle at either end, referring to the Layout Diagram for placement. Sew the triangles into rows, then sew the rows together to complete the cushion front. Square up if necessary.

QUILTING AND FINISHING

14

Press the cushion front and lining well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the lining fabric right side down, the batting on top, then place the cushion front centrally and right side up.

15

Baste the three layers together using your preferred method. Quilt as desired. Lorna quilted straight lines roughly in apart. Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the cushion front.

16

Take the pieces of cushion back fabric and press under by in twice on one of the long edges for each piece. Pin and then topstitch in place to hem.

17

Place the two back pieces on top of your cushion front, right sides together, lining up the edges. The back pieces will overlap. Pin and sew all around the edges using a in seam allowance. Snip the corners, turn the cushion cover right side out and press.

18

Make four pompoms using a 3 in pompom maker and a ball of yarn. Trim to neaten and hand sew to each corner of the cushion using a double threaded needle. Place the cushion pad inside the cover to finish.
