side of the square. Sew on the line, trim with a ºin seam allowance and press open. Repeat on the opposite corner to make one Flying Geese (FG) unit (Fig 1).
9
Repeat step 8 to make a total of thirty Fabric C/D FG units. Repeat step 8 again to make a total of six FG units using the Fabric G 10Ωin squares and Fabric C 10Ωin x 20Ωin pieces.
PIECING THE ROWS
10
Referring to the Layout Diagram, arrange your Fabric C/D FG units in two rows of fifteen units. Sew together and press seams open.
11
Arrange your Fabric G/C FG units in two rows of three units. Sew together.
12
Take eight Fabric E 4Ωin x 6Ωin pieces and seven Fabric C 4Ωin x 6Ωin pieces. Arrange in an alternating pattern, and sew together along the long edges. Repeat to make a second identical row. 13
Join the Fabric A 3Ωin x 30Ωin strips in pairs along the short ends, pressing the seam open, to make two 60Ωin long strips. Repeat with your remaining Fabric A, B, C, F and H strips to make two 60Ωin long strips of each.
ASSEMBLING THE QUILT TOP
14
Arrange your rows and strips as shown in the Layout Diagram. Sew the rows together, carefully matching ends, to complete the quilt top.
QUILTING AND FINISHING
15
Cut the backing fabric in half across the width. Remove the selvedges and sew the two pieces together using a Ωin seam. Press the seam open.
16
Press the quilt top and backing well. Make a quilt sandwich by placing the backing fabric right side down, the batting on top, then place the quilt top centrally and right side up. Baste the layers together using your preferred method. 17
Quilt as desired. Art Gallery Fabrics quilted straight lines horizontally across the quilt using a white thread. Trim off the excess batting and backing fabric and square up the quilt.
18
Sew the binding strips together end-to-end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Fold in half lengthways, wrong sides together, and press.
19
Sew the binding to the right side of the quilt, creating a neat mitre at each corner. Fold the binding over to the back of the quilt and secure in place temporarily with pins or binding clips. Hand stitch in place to finish.
