HOW TO MAKE QUILTED SLIPPERS
MATERIALS
■ 0.25m ( yrd) each three coordinating fabrics
■ 0.25m ( yrd) fusible fleece
■ One pack extra wide double fold bias binding ■ Coordinating thread Simple quilting techniques and graphic fabrics make for a pair of classic slip-ons. All seams are sewn using 0.5cm ( ").
01 Layer the fabrics together for the slipper bottom pieces. Stack the bottom fabric, right side (RS) down, then two layers of fusible fleece, then the top layer of fabric, RS up. Using the slipper bottom template on page 121, pin all of
the layers and cut out. Then flip the template and cut another set for the second foot.
02 Fuse the fleece to the wrong side ( WS) of the top slipper bottom piece. Layer the second piece of fleece on top of the first and fuse with an iron, following the manufacturer's instructions.
03 Pin the layers and quilt, starting in the middle and working to the
edges, removing the pins.
04 To cut the slipper top, layer together the inner lining piece, one piece of fusible fleece, and the final layer of outer fabric. Pin the template on top and cut all layers.
Repeat for the second slipper.
05 Fuse fleece to the WS of the slipper top and mark the pleats and centre.
06 Layer the inner lining piece on top of the outer piece, RS together, and stitch along the inner edge.
Trim the seam close and very carefully clip the curve so that it!will lie flat.
07 Turn RS out, press and top stitch to finish. Then, using the longest stitch on your machine, tack all
of the layers together around the outside curve, being careful to start above the previous top stitching.
08 Using the markings, fold 0.5cm (¼") under to the outside to create
two front pleats. Pin and stitch to hold. Very gently, pull the bottom threads of the tacking stitch to ease the upper part of the slipper into a rounded shape. 09 Pin the slipper top to the slipper bottom and stitch.
