■ Seam allowances are ¼in, unless

otherwise noted.

■ Press seams to one side, unless

otherwise instructed.

■ RST = right sides together.

■ WOF = width of fabric.

■ Fabrics A– C are from the Bella Solids range for Moda Fabrics. The lightweight denim is from Kate’s stash.

CUTTING OUT

1From Fabric A cut:

■ Five (5) 2in x WOF.

2From each of Fabrics B and C cut: ■ Six (6) 2in x WOF.

3From Fabric D cut:

■ One (1) 17in x 10in. 4From the lining fabric cut: ■ Two (2) 17in x 10in.

5From the batting cut: ■ Two (2) 21in x 14in.

WEAVING THE FRONT PANEL

6Prepare your 2in x WOF strips as outlined in steps 1– 4 of the tutorial, to make 1in wide strips. Cut the Fabric A strips in half, making ten strips approx 20in long. Leave one each of the Fabric B and C strips whole, and cut the remainder in thirds to make fifteen strips in each colour, approx 14in long.

7Prepare your board, as outlined in steps 5–7 of the fabric weaving tutorial, drawing a 10in x 17in rectangle, and spacing your lines 2in apart. Pin the Fabric A set of strips in place as in steps 8–9 on p71.

8Weave the panel as outlined in steps 10–14 on p71. First use the Fabric B strips to weave from the left edge. Then use the Fabric C strips to weave from the right edge.

9Finish the woven panel following steps 15–18, trimming to 10in x 17in.

MAKING THE POUCH

4Place the Fabric D 17in x 10in piece on top of the remaining batting rectangle and quilt as desired. Trim away any excess batting to complete the back panel.

5Fold under the zip tape at a 45-degree angle on each side of the zip at both ends. Baste in place to secure (Fig W).

6With

the woven panel right side up, place the zipper at the top, centring it right side down. Baste in place. Place one lining piece on top, also right side down and pin or clip in place (Fig X). Sew along the top edge using a zipper foot. Press the woven panel and lining piece away from the zip. Topstitch "/ 8in from the seam.

7Repeat step 12 with the back panel and the remaining lining piece on the other side of the zip.

8Open the zip halfway. Bring the two outer panels RST, and the two lining pieces RST, carefully aligning the pieces at the seam. Pin and sew around the outer edge, using a ½in seam, leaving a turning gap in the bottom edge of the lining.

9Turn the pouch right side out through the gap in the lining. Push out the corners of the pouch. Close the opening in the lining with a ladder stitch and push down inside the pouch to finish.
