MEET THE QUILTER: XANTHE GRUNDY

-

We talk to Xanthe of Wife-Made about her quilting journey, taking quilt pics, quilty life lessons and more…

How H did you first get into i quilting?

A good friend of mine was w getting married and a I wanted to make her something special. I was looking through a hhome magazine one day, came across a quilt pattern I liked and decided that was the gift. It definitely was NOT a beginner quilt, but I tend to be a bit like that – diving right in without checking how deep the water is (when it comes to crafting, anyway!). It took me a couple of years to finish it and I ended up gifting it to them on the birth of their second child!

Which quilting technique do you enjoy the most and why?

I tend to go mostly for machine piecing but I enjoy throwing in a bit of variety here and there. You’ll notice that my pattern designs vary a lot and I’m not really a specialist in any one technique.

What are your tips for taking great quilt pics?

Good, natural light is the key. And I like a quilt photo that shows the item in use, rather than on a wall or being held up by someone.

What’s your favourite thing about designing quilt patterns?

To me it’s all about being able to make an idea in my head come to life. I really enjoy the challenge and figuring out the best way to do it.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from quilting?

Slow down and enjoy the process! It's much better than rushing through to get one thing finished so you can start on the next.

What fun things can we expect from you in the future?

I have a lot of partially designed ideas and patterns that I’d like to see come to fruition. And as I’m not really a specialist, they’re actually not all quilts! I love to design homewares as well, but

I do have one particular FPP pattern that I’m itching to work on. wife-made.com wifemade
