Vidibox turns your iPad’s screen into a drum-pad-like instrument that controls the playback of up to 16 video and audio clips. You assign media to parts of the screen, and choose whether it plays once or loops when tapped, and whether audio, video or both play, in full or in part. The feature tour and project examples are invaluable in understanding how it works before you start composing. Performances can be output to a second screen, which doesn’t show the app’s interface, and exported to iTunes and Dropbox. Your own media can be recorded within the app, and imported from the Camera Roll and iTunes on a computer.

It’s fairly easy to learn, though you need some raw talent to get good results. However, the clean interface makes it simple to set up, so beginners can persevere and develop their skills.
