What is it? This 27-inch display has a frankly ludicrous resolution of 5120x2880 – nearly 15 megapixels! It makes 4K look… well, just a little bit lower res, really. When’s it due? Before the end of 2014. Why are we excited? 27 inches, you say? Why, that’s the size of the current largest iMac. And 5120x2880 pixels, you say!? Why, that’s exactly double the resolution of the 27-inch iMac’s 2560x1440 current display! Yes, what Dell has announced here is basically a Retina 27-inch iMac screen. Of course, this is simply a huge number of pixels to power, and really you’d need something not far off the Mac Pro’s power to run things smoothly. Will we see a new, very expensive iMac with beefy specs running this display? Maybe, but in the meantime, anyone looking to do professional level 4K video editing or high-end photography (and owning a Mac Pro) will find themselves drooling over this.
