The Hero 3+ shoots 4K at only 12 frames per second, too slow for realistic motion and too fast for time lapse. We’d recommend you wait for the next iteration of GoPro for your smoother 4K fix – as we go to press, it’s available for pre-order.

The HX-A500E’s features list is pretty basic, with a single fixed focal length at 4K but, like the GoPro, it does offer Wi-Fi connectivity. Sony’s FDR-AX100E handheld recorder has an excellent selection of features, though, including an intuitive touchscreen, excellent 12x optical zoom and built in ND filters.

The FZ1000 has a decent fixed zoom lens and the EOS-1D C has an envious list of features including the excellent C Log (to assist with postproduction colour grading).

Brilliantly, the GH4 can record 4K internally to high-speed SD cards at 8-bit and can also output higherquality10-bit to an external recorder through the micro-HDMI port. The EVF is wonderful, and with videospecific features such as zebras and peaking, the GH4 pips the EOS-1D C in this category.
