Serif’s Affinity Designer was released at the start of October, and you can create very quickly with it; panning and zooming is always live at 60fps, and gradients, transparencies and other effects are applied live. But that’s not to say it’s an amateur application, because despite being easy to use, it supports CMYK, RGB and Lab colour spaces and ICC colour management, and can import PSD, SVG, AI, EPS and FreeHand files.

It’s competitively priced too, at £34.99 – and unlike with Adobe’s software, that’s a one-off fee rather than a subscription. And Serif promises at least a couple of years of free upgrades as well!
