pple Pay is al­ready the US’s most widely used mo­bile pay­ment sys­tem, pro­cess­ing 1 mil­lion credit card trans­ac­tions in the first 24 hours alone fol­low­ing its launch in Oc­to­ber.

De­spite many years of try­ing, oth­ers in the space, in­clud­ing Google and PayPal, have been un­able to match such mo­men­tum.

“We’re al­ready more than the to­tal of the other guys,” said Ap­ple CEO, Tim Cook, at a Wall Street Jour­nal con­fer­ence. De­spite years of work, Google, PayPal and oth­ers have failed to achieve this kind of trac­tion.

A220,000 re­tail lo­ca­tions

Ap­ple Pay launched with support from over 220,000 re­tail lo­ca­tions, in­clud­ing Sta­ples, Whole Foods, Dis­ney, Sub­way, Bloom­ing­dales, Nike, Foot Locker, Toys R Us and more. Whole Foods stores across the US now see around $4 mil­lion in weekly sales through Ap­ple Pay trans­ac­tions.
