Stor­age may be cheap, but mod­ern DSLRs can blaze away at speeds in ex­cess of 10fps and this can lead to a great many sim­i­lar, if not iden­ti­cal, images.

Snaps­e­lect of­fers im­age recog­ni­tion that can run while im­port­ing pic­tures from your cam­era as well as on ex­ist­ing Aper­ture or Light­room li­braries or fold­ers on a hard drive.

The app will group your images by cap­ture time into sim­i­lar and iden­ti­cal piles, and can take some time to do this depend­ing on your CPU and the num­ber of images. We didn’t see it make a mis­take, but it’s up to you to check through them and ex­port the best to a work­ing folder. You can share di­rectly to so­cial me­dia too.

Many pho­tog­ra­phers will delete poor images on the cam­era or when im­port­ing to their Mac, so this app may be a so­lu­tion in search of a prob­lem. But there’s some great tech­nol­ogy at work here, and it may be handy for those who pray and spray. Ian Even­den

This is a use­ful app for those who take a lot of sim­i­lar shots, and the im­age recog­ni­tion works a treat.
