Caldigit Thunderbolt Station 2
4 Of the five docks on test, this one takes up the least space, whether stood upright or laid flat. It’s one of three docks with two eSATA ports – fairly common prior to USB 3.0, and likely the fastest connection on your older drives. CalDigit (and Elgato, too) provides a menu bar icon to eject drives, a point in its favour if you use a MacBook. CalDigit’s dock is slightly more expensive than Elgato’s, but you can halve the £9 difference by getting the version without a Thunderbolt cable and buying Apple’s half-metre one.
