Falling on deaf ears

Good on developer Iron Cloud for defying convention: you control Mayday with only your voice.

It’s intriguing, but imperfect. Guiding the survivor of a spaceship disaster via voice commands can be unpredictable. Your charge occasionally mishears clear instructions. Sometimes he needs prompting to follow routes that other times he’ll navigate automatically – and your instructions can undo progress. Repetition doesn’t always help and can lead to human/iPhone arguments best conducted in private.

Mayday is over far too soon, partly because it’s not hugely challenging, and the everthickening plot concludes just as it gets interesting.

It’s a fine concept, particularly on the walkietalkie sized iPhone, but it could have been better executed. Paul Dean
