Eschewing the traditional tower design, the new Mac Pro is cylindrical, coming in at one eighth of the previous model’s size – standing just 9.9 inches tall – but it packs a lot of power. And we mean a lot!

Designed around a thermal core that cools its components, the tiny Mac Pro boasts next-generation Xeon processor options, dual workstation-class GPUs, Thunderbolt 2, PCIe-based flash storage and fast ECC memory. Six Thunderbolt 2 ports sit at the back, flexible enough to provide a huge 20Gbps of bandwidth in one direction and able to daisy chain up to six peripherals. It’s fully backwards compatible with the original Thunderbolt port too, so if you already have Thunderbolt devices, you can still use them. There are also four USB 3.0 ports – the first time this high-speed USB connection has been featured on the Mac Pro – and two gigabit Ethernet ports. Numerous custom options are also available.

The Mac Pro is an incredibly powerful desktop computer, and probably a Mac too far for most users, but for those who need an incredible degree of computing power, it’s capable of offering astonishing performance for years.
