Import-ant files
My wife has recently taken a movie on her iPad. We would like to keep it as a permanent record on DVD. I have attempted to transfer it to my iMac via the Lightning to USB cable into iTunes. I have tried a backup from the iPad to iTunes into the iMac to no avail. My iMac is rather old and I am running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and is therefore unable to access iCloud. I would be grateful if you could help me with this… after a little research I have found that the iPad’s photos and video can be imported into iPhoto. For some reason all the instructions suggest you use iTunes, which for this application won’t work apparently. Anthony John Brookes
Alan Stonebridge says… You can use the Image Capture app, included with OS X, to copy a selfrecorded video from an iPad to a Mac. If the iPad is protected with a passcode, enter it and then connect it to your Mac using its USB cable. Open Image Capture, select the iPad in the left pane, then locate the video in the right-hand side of the window. You should be able to just drag it from the window onto your desktop to copy it.
Getting the movie onto a DVD will require iDVD or, if you don’t have that, you can try Burn (free, burn-osx.sourceforge.net), which is able to write DVD-Video discs and pretty easy to use (though you might want to investigate the technical options in Burn > Preferences > Video > DVD).
Click Video at the top of Burn’s window, choose DVD-Video from the format pop-up on the right, drag your video into the large, empty list in the middle of the window and click Convert. As part of the conversion you’ll see an option to choose a DVD region. The PAL option is correct if you want to ensure the disc will work in the UK. The conversion process could take a while, especially if the video is long. Otherwise, when it’s finished click Burn.
