HOWTO | USE IOS 9’S PODCASTS APP

-

1 Unplayed episodes

The new Podcasts app has an Unplayed tab at the bottom, serving as a single place to catch up on unheard episodes from all of your subscribed podcasts. They’re listed in reverse chronological order. Tap any one of them to play it; playback continues backwards in time from that episode.

2 Be more selective

Stations are similar, but you choose the podcasts they pull episodes from. Tap + in the Unplayed or My Podcasts tab to make one. Choose some podcasts, tap Station Settings, set things like how many episodes to play and in what order, then tap Done. Your stations are at the top of My Podcasts.

3 Manage subscription settings

After subscribing to a podcast in the Featured or Top Charts tabs, go to it in My Podcasts. You can view all episodes by tapping Feed, or just fresh ones in Unplayed. Tap the cog icon to customise download and playback options for that podcast – you can set defaults in Settings > Podcasts.

4 Queue up episodes

When playing a podcast, tap the MiniPlayer above the bottom bar, then the list icon (bottom-right) to see Up Next. To add an episode to this queue, tap the ellipsis next to it in Unplayed or My Podcasts, and then pick either Play Next to prioritise it, or Add to Up Next to tack it on at the end.
