The stand­alone apps we’ve high­lighted in this sec­tion al­low you to make best use of your iOS de­vice for mon­i­tor­ing sleep, ac­tiv­ity and di­etary habits, but many of them rely on you hav­ing your iPhone or iPad to hand at all times, which may strike you as in­con­ve­nient or sim­ply im­prac­ti­cal. If you’re strug­gling to stay mo­ti­vated or keep to your fit­ness goals then con­sider a ded­i­cated tracker.

Some of the wear­ables cov­ered here of­fer use­ful feed­back, in­form­ing you of up­com­ing work­outs you have sched­uled, or ping­ing you when it’s been a while since you last worked out. But if you’re more in­ter­ested in an in­te­grated so­lu­tion for iOS de­vices, con­sider an Ap­ple Watch (see page 81).
