Modem or router?

A router connects multiple computers and other devices in order to create a network within your home. To connect your network to the internet, you also need a modem. Many routers combine both of these within a single device. Some – notably Apple’s AirPort range – don’t include a modem, so you have to connect them to an existing one to get online.
