Use mul­ti­ple lights placed off-cam­era to achieve flat­ter­ing light­ing con­di­tions in the shot.

Use your cam­era’s white bal­ance con­trol to tweak the light level and colour tem­per­a­ture that the cam­era records.

Frame shots to in­clude ev­ery­thing you want and ex­clude that which doesn’t serve to im­prove the shot.

Record at least two dif­fer­ent but com­ple­men­tary an­gles of any in­ter­view footage.

Over-light a shot as this can bleach the re­sults and fix­ing in post­pro­duc­tion can ad­versely af­fect pic­ture qual­ity.

Place a sub­ject dead cen­tre in the frame un­less there’s a good rea­son to do so. In­stead, use the left or right third.
