How to Use private and public calendars

1 Make public from a Mac

In the sidebar, put the pointer over the calendar you want to share; click the icon to the right. Tick Public Calendar, then click the Share button, or triple-click the address and use ç+C and ç+v to copy and paste it.

2 Share privately from a Mac

In the left pane, hover over the calendar you want to share; click the icon. Click in the ‘Share with’ box and type the invitee’s name. When they appear in suggestions, click on them. Click Done to send an invitation email.

3 Make public from iOS

Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen and tap the ‘i’ next to the calendar you want to share. Switch on Public Calendar (scroll down if necessary). Tap Share Link, then choose the method you want to use from the Share sheet.

5 Make public from the web

Sign in to iCloud.com and click Calendar. Click the share icon (by the calendar’s name) and tick the Public Calendar checkbox. Click Copy Link to copy to the Clipboard or Email Link to open a new message in iCloud Mail.

7 Subscribe from a Mac

In Calendar, choose File > New Calendar Subscription. Copy the address of the calendar into the box and click Subscribe. Give the calendar a name and colour, then choose iCloud from the Location menu. Click OK.

4 Share privately from iOS

Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen and tap the ‘i’. Tap Add Person under Shared With, then start typing the name of a person you want to share the calendar with. Tap their name when it appears, then tap Add.

6 Share privately on the web

In the Calendar app in iCloud.com, click the Sharing icon and tick the box marked Private Calendar. Start typing the name of a contact and click when the correct name appears. Click OK to send them an invitation.

8 Subscribe from the web

Click Calendars and click on the public calendar you want to add. From the Edit menu, choose Get Info. Click iCloud in the Location menu then OK. You’ll now see the calendar on your iPhone, iPad, and at iCloud.com.
