smart home ces Special
Report from the Consumer Electronics Show
This year’s CES in Las Vegas was a mixed bag. There was a big focus on artificial intelligence (AI), and using that AI in smart devices in the home. But, as often happens with new tech, you sometimes get the impression that nobody quite knows what to do with it all just yet. There was the hideous embarrassment of Cloi, the not-sosmart robot from LG, which refused to do what it was told. And as for the voice-controlled toilet – well, we’ll just leave that to your imagination. But there were more practical products on show, too – and, at long last, signs that Apple’s HomeKit is making some much needed progress in its battle with Amazon Echo.
