HomePod repair costs

On a tight budget? Look away now…

-

Now that HomePod has well and truly landed, it’s worth knowing how much it costs to repair. That might not make pleasant reading, depending on what happens to your HomePod and if you have AppleCare coverage.

An out-of-warranty repair for a broken HomePod will set you back £268.44 – quite steep considering a brand-new HomePod will cost you £319.

If your HomePod is covered by AppleCare, you’ll get cover for two incidents of accidental damage, each with an excess fee of £29. The AppleCare coverage itself costs £39, making it far cheaper than an out-of-warranty repair.

One reason for the high repair cost if you don’t have AppleCare may be to do with HomePod’s design. A teardown by iFixit revealed that the device is extremely hard to repair yourself, due to how tightly packed its internals are and how sturdily it’s all glued and fixed together – iFixit needed a hacksaw, among other hefty tools, to take it apart. Repairing HomePod yourself is clearly not for the faint-hearted.

The good news is that if you’ve only damaged the HomePod’s cable, you won’t have to fork out for a new device in its entirety. Just replacing the cable costs £25, making it much more affordable.
