How to Recover a file
1 Menu bar icon
Go to > System Preferences > Time Machine. Tick ‘Show Time Machine in menu bar’, then click the new icon that was added. You’ll see the time when the latest backup was made, and the option to enter Time Machine.
2 Enter Time Machine
In Finder, open a folder that contains (or contained) a file you’d like to restore to an older version. Choose the option from step 1, then use the timeline down the screen’s right edge to move through the folder’s contents back through time.
3 Restore the file
Select the item you’d like to recover and click Restore. It’ll be copied from your Time Machine backup to its original location on your Mac. To copy elsewhere, click the toolbar’s gear button for an option to restore to another location.
