QI share Calendars and documents between two Macs using iCloud, but they don’t always appear to see the same thing. Why not, and what can I do about it? by Ian Brown

AiCloud offers two classes of sharing: specific services, such as Contacts, Calendars, and Photos, and shared file storage in iCloud Drive. If both of your Macs share the same iCloud account and are configured the same way in their iCloud panes in System Preferences, they should see essentially the same things. Minor differences can arise when they run different versions of macOS, as iCloud features vary slightly across major releases of the operating system.

One factor which can throw this out of kilter is the use of private, local Calendars and other potentially shared data. Consolidate your appointments into fewer calendars, and ensure they are all shared on your iCloud account, not stored locally. Do the same for Contacts.

When one Mac is disconnected from the internet, perhaps when at a remote location, it won’t, of course, be able to see any changes which have occurred in shared features or on iCloud Drive. However, when it reconnects to Apple’s servers, it should quickly bring itself up to date. If it doesn’t, contact Apple (bit.ly/ applsppt) to ask it to investigate.
