Just Mobile ShutterGrip

Remote iPhone shooting on a budget

- HOLLIN JONES

£39.95 FROM Just Mobile, just-mobile.com FEATURES Non-slip ergonomic grip, autoconnects at power on, tripod screw, CR2032 battery

While the cameras on iPhones have improved rapidly, a phone’s body is a pretty imperfect shape for taking pictures.

Fingers can get in front of lenses, and you can forget about snapping at tricky angles. ShutterGrip is a combined grip and mount for smartphones to fix that.

You pop the battery into the trigger section, then turn on the device and pair easily over Bluetooth with your phone. The system works in two ways. When slotted together, the two parts form a grip that simulates the feel of the shutter section of a small DSLR. The phone is clamped securely into the housing, so it’s easier to hold steady.

The second method lets you press the shutter button wirelessly, which triggers the camera in the mode set on the phone, and in bursts if you hold down the button.

The main housing has a universal tripod screw available to mount on tripods, as well as a lanyard hole, and a wrist strap is included. As mentioned, the trigger can be separated and used remotely, which is great for selfies – if that’s your thing, of course – or for placing the phone in a remote or tricky position and triggering from nearby.

Black, blue or gold options are available to buy. For more creative control of shooting on a phone, this is a great solution and a worthwhile buy, especially if you take a lot of photos.

?? ?? The unit is small and discreet, but provides greater stability when holding your phone as a camera.
