Photo prints are wrongly scaled

QMy iMac is running macOS 10.13.3 and the latest printer software, but Preview and Photos only print a third of each image to 6x4in photo paper on my HP Deskjet 3520. All other printing is fine. How can I print these photos properly?

AHigh Sierra’s drivers might need a little assistance in setting them up for high-quality print modes. It’s best to do this using a custom print setting.

Open an example image in Preview, and then choose File > Print. If you only see a simple dialog, click on the Show Details button to expand it fully. Ensure you have the correct paper size and orientation set at the top and then, in the pop-up menu halfway down, choose Preview to reveal the app’s controls for scaling its output to the page.

You should be able to leave Scale to Fit selected, but might need to switch from Print Entire Image to Fill Entire Paper. If those don’t do the trick, switch to using the Scale option and, because the image is being printed too large, try reducing the adjacent percentage.

To save these settings, choose ‘Save Current Settings as Preset’ from the Presets pop-up menu at the top of the sheet. Then you can easily use them the next time you want to print 6x4in photos.

Specialist photo and image apps like Affinity Photo provide more extensive and reliable printing options, which you should find more suitable if you print many of your photos in this way.

?? ?? To get the best out of high-quality print modes, set up scaling and other options, then save them as a preset.
