How to Connect to Home Sharing >

-

1 Start to share

Home Sharing requires that all your devices are connected to the same network, using a wired or wireless connection. To begin, open itunes on the Mac that contains your media library, and go to itunes > Preferences > Sharing.

2 Select what’s shared

You can choose to share your entire library, or you can limit sharing to specific playlists or categories. If other people – guests in your home, say – will connect to the same network, it’s a good idea to turn on the password protection setting.

3 Connect another device

If you want to connect to your media library from another Mac, open itunes on that device and choose File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing. You’ll need to provide the same Apple ID that you use for itunes on the first Mac.

4 Find the music

To access the first Mac’s library, click on the category pop-up (at the top left of itunes’ window) and the name of the other Mac should be listed (its name is set in itunes’ General preferences). Click it to browse that computer’s library.

5 Share with IOS

To access the library from an IOS device, go to Settings > Music and scroll to the bottom of the page. If you aren’t already signed in to Home Sharing, you’ll need to do so using the same Apple ID as on the Mac that’s sharing its library.

6 See the songs

In the Music app, tap Library > Home Sharing, then your shared library. In the TV app; tap Library, then a shared library. On 4th-gen and later Apple TVS, turn on Home Sharing in Settings > Accounts, then go to Apple TV’S Computers app.
