Can’t sync contacts

-

QMy contacts have recently stopped syncing between my Mac and iOS devices, although the devices otherwise still sync fine with one another. How can I fix this? by Brian Smale

AThis can occur for short periods when there are iCloud service issues, but should settle quickly once those issues have been resolved. Check iCloud’s current service status at bit.ly/srvstat to confirm.

Next, check your connection to iCloud is working normally by copying a small file to your iCloud Drive. Watch in Finder’s sidebar for a circular progress indicator next to iCloud Drive. Once the file upload is complete, confirm that it’s there and synced onto other Macs and iOS devices connected to iCloud Drive. My free tool Cirrus (eclecticlight.co) can run this check automatically for you and has additional controls.

If those checks confirm your iCloud connection is working properly, stop sharing Contacts on all of your other devices and last of all on your Mac. After a minute or so, turn back on iCloud’s syncing of Contacts on your Mac and a few minutes later do the same on each of your other devices. Some suggest turning iCloud off altogether, but that can create more problems and seldom solves anything.

Contacts and similar services don’t involve simple file transfers, but work through databases hosted in iCloud, over which you have no control. If they don’t sync properly after trying this, report the issue to Apple Support, which has deeper access into iCloud services.

?? ?? After confirming your connection to iCloud is working, the only control you have over many services are the checkboxes in its preferences.
