Keep track of battery usage

Power up your insights into app activity with new tools

-

Battery life is the one concern that never goes away, so in recognition of that Apple has made the Settings > Battery page more visual and interactive to help. Additionally, it has extended the longterm view to 10 days, which may help if you find your phone runs low on power on specific days as you can compare your app activity and routine on them.

The data visualisation has two parts: The top chart shows battery charge over time, and the bottom one shows activity from apps and services for each period, and an idea of how much of it took place while the screen was on or off.

Below the new charts is a breakdown of apps’ energy usage, like in previous versions of iOS. You may see a new activity description for some apps – Connected to Charger – giving you a clearer idea of what you can disregard as a cause of low power.

1 Last charge level

Not sure why the level is low so soon? Check the Last Charge Level row to confirm you didn’t remove your iPhone from its charger earlier than thought.

2 Charge level over time

If charging is slower than expected, or you see sudden drops at other times, your battery may need service, so tap Battery Health further up the page.

3 Intense activity

In this chart, some bars are lighter blue, indicating activity when the screen was off. It’s usually short in duration and accounted for by background refreshes.

4 See finer detail

The charts are interactive, so tap somewhere on one – an activity peak, say – and the list of apps at the bottom is filtered to help you pinpoint the culprit.
