CoNtINUED… Share your location
3 Request location
Once the person has accepted your sharing request, you can get their location by tapping the contact name. When the request arrives, they have five minutes to decline, after which their location is shared automatically.
5 Open in Maps
Shared locations have an ‘Open in Maps’ button that lets you see the wider context, as well as get directions to that point from your current location. Return to Trusted Contacts by tapping the app name in the top left.
7 Chat and share in Hangouts
The free Google Hangouts chat app makes it easy to share your location within a conversation, whether that’s a one-on-one or a group chat. Tap the target with a dot in it at the bottom right, then choose the location to send.
4 Share your location
Another option when you tap a Trusted Contact is to alert them of your location. Click this and a similar screen pops up, but centred on your device. Your location is shared for 24 hours, or until you tell the app to stop doing so.
6 Stop sharing
If at any point you want to stop sharing your location with a trusted contact, there’s a large Stop button near the top of the interface. If you don’t stop, your location continues to be shared, updating as you move around.
8 Do it with WhatsApp
WhatsApp has similar functionality to Hangouts. You send your location using the paperclip-like attachment button. Note that for both messaging apps, the location is a one-off, and doesn’t update like Trusted Contacts.
