Give messages a personalised makeover

Present a new side of yourself to friends

-

1 Make your Memoji

In Messages, tap the Animoji button in the apps bar. In the gallery that opens, tap + (far left) to create a new Memoji. Skin colour, hair, facial features and more can be tailored.

2 Create variations

You can make multiple Memoji. If you only want to alter small details, like headwear, tap the ellipsis (…) under a Memoji in the gallery, pick Duplicate, tap the ellipsis again, then choose Edit.

3 Record yourself

Like Animoji, Memoji track your face movements. Select yours in the gallery and tap the red button. The max length has been extended to 30 seconds.

4 Add more personality

You can add cheeky expression to Animoji and Memoji. Stick out your tongue or wink and the avatar will too.

5 Special camera effects

In Messages, tap the camera icon. Here, or in a FaceTime video chat, tap the star-like Effects icon. Use the row of app icons here to add a colour filter, text, animations and stickers; drag and drop onto the preview area. On devices with Face ID, graphics track your movements.

6 Replace your face

Also only if Face ID is available, tap the Animoji icon, swipe to the Animoji or Memoji you want to send, compose your expression, then tap the character.
