CUSTOM WATCH FACE

Create your perfect Apple Watch face

- Carrie Marshall

IT WILL TAKE 5 minutes

YOU WILL LEARN How to customise your Apple Watch YOU’LL NEED watchOS 6 (or iPhone optional)

One of the best things about Apple’s watchOS is that you’re no longer stuck with the default Apple Watch faces. You can now change the colours, adjust their individual styles and change what complications appear on your preferred face.

Complications are little sections that do something. For example, you might have a Calendar complication that tells you what your next appointment is, or a Shazam complication that opens the Shazam app, or a weather complication telling you that you need to pack an umbrella. Complications may be made by Apple, or they may be provided by third-party apps such as Fantastical, Dark Sky and so on. To see what’s available, go into the Watch app and tap on Complications. This enables you to copy any third-party complications you’d like to run to your Watch.

Change of face

As we’ll discover, it’s very easy to create a custom version of any watch face in watchOS 6. Some of the changes are really subtle, such as changing the colour of the seconds hand; others are more in-your-face (ahem), such as the bright complications of the Infograph face in multicolour mode.

Not every face can contain the same things. Some enable you to use more complications than others, and you’ll often find that a complication that’s available for Face X isn’t available for Face Y. That means it’s worth experimenting with and tweaking the many available faces to see which one suits you best.
