1Password has a really impressive feature set, and everything is laid out in a clean interface

Choosing a winning password manager here is not easy. While the basics and security are common throughout, what differentiates the apps is their add-on features, ease of use and, of course, pricing.

iCloud Keychain is great for the basics, but it’s disappointing that it’s not available when you’re using an alternative platform.

Dashlane is comprehensive, but its interface is somewhat cluttered and hard to navigate. With fewer features on offer, LastPass and Keeper are very easy to use, but they’re also quite pricey considering that there aren’t many additional features. We like RoboForm’s Contacts feature and Dashlane’s health score, but the apps just aren’t as comprehensive as 1Password.

1Password is fairly pricey at just over £30 per year, but it has a really impressive feature set, which includes storage of secure notes and identity cards, such as driving licences and passports.

There are plenty of features, but everything is laid out in a clean interface, with a handy sidebar that provides easy access. As well as unlimited storage, Watchtower’s ability to track reused and weak passwords is very reassuring.

Jo says…

As a longtime user of iCloud Keychain, I’m now thinking of 1Password as an alternative. I think the monthly subscription is worth it, as there are so many extra features that I’d use regularly. I tend to move between devices, so the crossplatform syncing is a great bonus.
