THE GEAR WE’RE LUSTING AFTER

-

1 Canon EOS R5 > £TBC > canon.com

> Canon has revealed that a new mirrorless camera is coming, and it’ll be packed with enough tech to fire it to the top of our Most Wanted list. The most eye-grabbing feature is 8K video support, which isn’t just tech showing off for those with the latest TVs (or video pros) – using 8K footage to export 4K final videos gives you much higher quality results. We don’t know a lot about the R5 yet, other than it’ll have a new type of sensor and 20fps shooting, with in-body stabilisation and lens stabilisation. It’ll be expensive, but awesome.

2 Celestron StarSense Explorer > £379 > celestron.com

> Precise stargazing comes to everyone with this app-friendly telescope. You attach your phone to it, fire up the StarSense app, and use the instructions given on the screen to point the lens at exactly what you want to look at. The phone analyses the stars in real-time, and uses arrows to guide you. It’s powerful enough to show you Jupiter’s spot and Saturn’s rings, and is designed to be a user-friendly package for newcomers to astronomy.

3 Scosche BaseLynx > £139.95 (System Kit) > scosche.com

> This is a modular charging kit which you can customise for your exact Apple tech setup. There are four modules: one for Apple Watch (with built-in magnetic connector), one for iPhone (with Qi wireless charging), one with vertical stands and three USB ports (one C, two A) for iPads and other tech, and an end cap module with one USB-C and one USB-A. You can fit them in whatever order you want, and add as many as you need. The Apple Store has a System Kit, which includes one of every module, for the price listed above. The Scosche website has more options (and colours).

4 doqo keyboard > $199 (about £160 plus shipping) > kickstarter.com

> This is a keyboard and USB-C hub all-in-one for your (newest–gen) iPad Pro. It gives you a case that makes it MacBook-like, with proper keys and even a trackpad for gesture control and multi-touch. Most importantly, it adds loads of ports around the outside, including two more USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, SD and TF memory cards, and HDMI. It also has a 4,300mAh battery in it, extending the life of your iPad even further (or letting you charge your phone). It’s easy to pop the iPad out for when you want to use your tablet as a tablet, but this really does make it even more flexible and productive.
