Dead keyboard when adding appointments
QWhen I try adding an appointment to Calendar, why does the keyboard on my iPhone stop working properly? How can I fix it?
AA general problem getting the keyboard to work suggests a developing hardware fault with your iPhone’s display, but where this is confined to one situation it’s probably a software bug or conflict. Before going any further, ensure your iOS and all apps are fully up to date.
Start with the most specific, and check any third-party apps you have installed which affect the keyboard. These include additional keyboards using SwiftKey, and utilities which work with existing keyboards, such as TextExpander.
You can disable SwiftKey in Settings > SwiftKey > Keyboards, but it’s also worth taking a look in Settings > General > Keyboard, and at the Keyboards item there, in case you have another, like Gboard, which is also active, and could be tripping over SwiftKey or TextExpander perhaps.
Simply disabling these could resolve the problem. If it does but you still want to use those custom keyboards, remove the app completely and try installing it again from the App Store. If the problem returns, report it as a bug to the relevant developer so they can resolve it.
If you still get nowhere and have tried the time-honoured solution of turning your iPhone off and on again, you may need to return your iPhone to factory settings, and restore from a backup. Although time-consuming, when performed from a Mac or PC according to Apple’s instructions at bit.ly/mac354iprstr, it’s sometimes the only way to fix such problems.
