HOW TO Use Spotify & SoundCloud in djay Pro
1 Set up streaming
If you look at the bottom left of the screen you’ll see icons for the media sources: Apple Music, Tidal, SoundCloud and Spotify. To add Spotify, click on it and enter your login details. You’ll need an active premium subscription.
2 Set up SoundCloud
You can add SoundCloud the same way. If you don’t have a SoundCloud Go+ subscription you can still use the features such as the featured playlists and music playback, but you won’t be able to add tracks to your queue.
3 Find what you want
Forget crate digging: when you’re searching Spotify you can add filters to find exactly what you’re looking for. Your search isn’t just for albums, artists or songs – you can search for specific BPMs and keys too, which is a real time-saver.
4 Drop it on the deck
To use a song, simply drag it onto the deck (we’re in twin-deck mode here, with a deck at the top left and top right respectively) or ≈-click on it and select which deck to send it to. If you’re using four decks, you’ll see all four here.
5 Drop another track
You’re not going to get much DJing done with just one record. Add a track to your other deck and you can play either or both. Click Sync to synchronise them so they both play at the same BPM, no matter what you choose to set that to.
6 Add special effects
The icons at the top centre of the window enable you to see extra options. We’ve selected FX to bring up a range of special effects – they’re listed just above the music library. You can expand djay’s arsenal with extra effects packs.
7 Do it old-school
If you’d rather have decks that look like decks, tap on the View icon (top right); it’ll be a circle if you’ve selected vinyl-style decks here, or columns if you’ve stuck with digital. Digital is more informative but the vinyl’s more fun.
8 Double up your decks
Sometimes two decks just aren’t enough, which is why djay can work across four different tracks at once. As with double decks you can sync records so they keep to the same tempo, but you don’t have to sync all four.
9 Add cue points
Serious DJs can add Cue Points to streaming tracks with the same keyboard shortcuts as for local files. Cue Points enable you to tag useful bits of tracks, such as a really great breakdown or a guaranteed crowd-pleasing bit.
