HOW TO Fix common problems

-

1 Banish the blues

In the shade, colours can look too cold (blue). Tap to view a thumbnail. Tap Edit. Swipe to the Warmth icon and tap on that. Swipe to increase the strength for a warmer look, then tap to see a before and after version.

2 Tackle tints

Our warmed-up shot from the previous step suffered from a bit of a magenta tint. For more natural colours, tap the Tint icon. Drag the slider. A minus value adds a little green which reduces the presence of magenta.

3 Reduce distortion

From a low angle a tall building’s walls can appear to converge inwards. Tap the Crop icon. Swipe the vertical distortion slider to warp the shot so that the walls run parallel with the edge of the frame. Tap Done.

4 Reveal detail

Your iPhone may struggle to reveal detail in a backlit subject. The Brilliance slider does a great job of revealing shadow and highlight detail. The Shadow slider brightens shadows without overexposing highlights.

5 Use styles

To give your photos a particular look before you snap a shot, toggle the Camera app’s chevron icon and tap the Styles icon. Swipe to preview styles such as Rich Contrast or Vibrant. Styles won’t be applied to Raw files.

6 Enhance portraits

Shooting in Portrait mode gives you more editing options. Tap the f-stop icon and slide to blur out background distractions. Tap the Lighting icon and swipe to let a Studio Light selectively brighten up your subject.

7 Fast filter

A quick way to change colour and tones is to apply a filter. In the Edit workspace, tap the Filters icon. Swipe through the nine available filters to see how they affect your photo. Use the slider to make a filter less intense.

8 Go straight

It’s easy to inadvertently tilt your handheld iPhone and capture a wonky horizon. Tap the Crop icon, then tap the Straighten icon. As you drag the Straighten slider, a grid appears to help you get a true horizon.

9 Noise reduction

In low light, the camera app uses a high ISO setting that can lead to nasty specks of digital noise. Use pinch to zoom for a closer look at the photo. Tap on the Noise Reduction tool. Swipe its slider to soften noise specks.
