HOW TO Import, create and manage entries

1 Import from existing

To import contacts from accounts already set up on your Mac, launch Contacts, click on the Contacts menu and choose Accounts. Click the account to import from in the sidebar, check Contacts and follow the instructio­ns.

4 Create a+contact

Click on the ‘ ’ at the bottom of the Contacts window and start typing the details of the contact. When you add a phone number, email or postal address, another field is created so you can add additional numbers or addresses.

7 Link cards

If you have contacts for the same person in different accounts, say one in Google and one in iCloud, you can keep both but link them so that only one card shows. Select the cards, click Cards > Link Selected Cards.

2 Import from new

Click Contacts, then Accounts. This time, click on the account provider in the main window, or choose Add Other Account. Either follow the instructio­ns, or click CardDAV or LDAP account and follow the instructio­ns.

5 Merge duplicates

If you have multiple contact entries for the same person, you can merge them. Click on the Cards menu and choose Look for Duplicates. When it’s finished searching, click Merge to combine the duplicate entries.

8 Create+a group

Click the ‘ ’ and choose New Group. Type a name for the group and press

®. You will see the group in the sidebar. Either click on a contact, or ç-click on multiple contacts, and drag them on to the group to add them.

3 Import from a file

You can import a contact or a group of contacts from a vCard (VCF) file. Click Contacts > Import, then navigate to the file with the contacts in it. Select it and click Open. Contacts will open the file and import the contacts.

6 Merge manually

If you’d rather have more control over which cards are merged, ç-click on the cards you want to combine into one. Then click on the Cards menu and choose Merge Selected Cards to combine them as one card.

9 Create a Smart Group

Click on the File menu and choose New Smart Group. Name the group. Choose from the menus and type a parameter in the text box. Click OK, or to add more criteria, click ‘+’, choose ‘any’ or ‘all’ and add the next criteria.
