Kensington UH1440P

A versatile and portable dock

- Rob Mead-Green

£117.70 FROM kensington.com FEATURES Integrated USB-C cable, 1x USB-C port (Up 85W PD), 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports (5Gbps), 1x 3.5mm headphone jack, 1x microSD card slot, 1x SD card slot, 1x Gb Ethernet port, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 1.4 port, 1x VGA port, 137x75x17mm

The next time you hit the road with your MacBook or USB-C iPad, you might want to stick one of these in your bag. For with it you gain a slew of ports and connectivity options that iPads and many laptop Macs lack – namely three USB-A 3.2 ports, plus a Gigabit Ethernet port and the ability to support up to two external displays at 1080p via DisplayPort, HDMI or old-school VGA. Compact and made of metal rather than plastic, the UH1440P USB-C Mobile Dock also comes with an integrated USB-C cable as well as a USB-C port with 85W of passthrough power, plus microSD and SD card slots – handy for anyone who’s also carting a DSLR around.

A little smaller, but also a little heavier than an iPhone, the UH1440P feels solid in the hand and works extremely well. Connect it to a compatible iPad running iPadOS 13 or later and you’ll be able to run Stage Manager on an external display, while also gaining quick and easy access to files stored on external drives and USB sticks via the Files app.

The only obvious catch is the limited number of USB-C ports (we’d have liked to see at least a couple more), while VGA is likely to only appeal to users of older monitors. But, as it stands, the Kensington UH1440P is a beautifully made and versatile dock that’s ideal for life on the go.

?? ?? The UH1440P dock is well designed with plenty of connectivity options.
