Watch out for asses on the road…

Classic racing game DONKEY.BAS will forever be remembered as the favorite of IBM PC owners in 1981. Co-written by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, this classic computer game has now been ported to Apple Watch in all its original CGA, four-color glory.

The goal is to steer your car clear of the donkeys popping up on the road ahead. All that’s required is turning the Digital Crown to switch between the left and right lanes, but believe us, it’s way more difficult than it sounds, because there’s barely any room to maneuver.

Unlike many other Apple Watch games, this one also works on iPhone, where you tap the screen to avoid oncoming donkeys. In keeping with the retro gaming spirit, DONKEY.APP also offers sound in all its PC speaker glory, and it’s quite a bit louder than what you’re used to from a smartwatch.

the bottom line. A faithful port of a DOS-era classic, but it’s bound to raise your blood pressure.
