Time options
If Apple is going to do away with creating the Airport/Time Capsule, I sincerely hope they release the API to allow thirdparty vendors to back up wirelessly via Time Machine. It’s an indispensable part of my life. I have everything set up to back up so I can set it and forget it. Ben Holeton
There kind of already is! It’s not an API (application programming interface – a way for different bits of software to talk to each other), but is instead a specification that network hard drives can use which means they’ll show up in Time Machine as a valid backup option. Synology, Western Digital and others offer compatible products.
