Storing your c amera foo tage
You can view live video for free, but other features such as archiving may cost extra
When your camera detects an intruder, it will send an alarm to your iPhone and stream the live video image so that you can see what’s going on back home. However, there may be times when you need to store your recordings for longer – perhaps as evidence of a crime.
Netatmo’s Welcome and Presence cameras are unusual, as they include a memory card that lets you store video directly on the camera itself. Most manufacturers opt for online storage instead – and this is where you need to watch out for hidden extra costs.
Netgear’s Arlo cameras allow you to store your video footage online for seven days for free – enough for most people – but then charge a monthly subscription of $9.99 to store recordings for 30 days. Logitech’s Circle stores video for 24 hours for free, before charging $3.99 per month, per camera, for 14 days of storage. Frustratingly, Swann’s SoundView and the Sengled Snap only provide live streaming, with no free online storage at all.
