Video on Watch

Video. On Watch. Any questions?

The idea of watching videos on a tiny Apple Watch display may sound absurd, but as noted previously in these pages, it’s one developers continue to explore. The latest to make the effort is Video on Watch, which allows iPhone owners to transfer videos stored in the Camera Roll or iCloud Photo Library and play them back on Apple Watch.

The app works surprisingly well, and is easy to use. From the iPhone app, select a video in your Camera Roll, optionally trim the head and/or tail, then tap Choose to save an optimized version inside Video on Watch. Choose one or more videos to transfer, tap the Watch icon at the bottom, and within seconds they’re transferred, ready for playback on your wrist, even without a connected iPhone.

16:9 videos look tiny on Apple Watch, but double-tapping zooms the center to fill the screen. You can also control audio volume by turning the crown.

the bottom line. It’s a crazy idea but by golly, it really works.
