Bitplay SNAP! 7

Get to grips with iPhone photography

-

$49.99 (case), $25–$99.99 (lenses) Manufacturer BitPlay, bitplayinc.com Requires iPhone 7 or 7 Plus (latter tested)

The iPhone 7 Plus is not the ideal shape for photography, and two lenses aren’t always enough. The bitplay SNAP! 7 is designed to fix both issues, with a case that makes your iPhone 7 Plus feel more like a proper camera, and accessory lenses that screw directly into the case.

The case grips the iPhone 7 Plus tight and comes with a handy wrist loop. It has a mechanical shutter button on the top which operates the iPhone’s volume button to fire the shutter, and an optional screw-on grip for longer sessions. This completely transforms the iPhone’s handling as a camera, and it even has a tripod socket in the base.

The screw-on lenses can be bought separately and include a macro/fisheye, wide-angle/fisheye, full frame fisheye, 3x telephoto, and a premium HD wide-angle lens. Apart from the last of those, the image quality is patchy, with noticeable distortion and edge softness. Interestingly, the case can also accept the excellent Zeiss Exolens lenses.

the bottom line. The SNAP! 7 case is great buy on its own, transforming the 7 Plus’s handling as a camera, while its lenses are best treated as novelties. Rod Lawton
