Go places with a key press
Some of Finder’s most useful navigation shortcuts are located in its Go menu. If you are good at remembering key combos, it’s worth remembering you can reach one of the listed folders by using ç+† to switch to Finder, then ß+ç and the corresponding letter shown in that menu. By doing this, you may find you’re able to have Finder’s sidebar hidden most of the time – choose View > Hide Sidebar. Even more usefully, these key combos work in Open and Save dialogs within apps, too.
